This piece started with a simple idea.
Curiosity.
That moment where you just want to see what happens.
No plan.
No real intention.
Just… what if?
🐍 The Watcher
At the centre, a dragon coils itself tightly around a glass vessel.
Not attacking.
Not aggressive.
Just watching.
There’s something deliberate in the way it wraps around the bottle.
Protective.
Possessive.
Maybe even cautious.
Like it knows exactly what’s inside.
🧪 What’s in the Bottle?
At first glance, it feels almost cartoon-like.
Bright colours.
Soft shapes.
Something that looks… harmless.
But then you notice it.
A brain.
Floating.
Suspended in liquid.
Suddenly the tone shifts.
Because now this isn’t just a fantasy object.
It feels like an experiment.
🧠 The Idea Behind It
This piece leans into the idea of creation without control.
What happens when curiosity pushes a little too far?
When you mix things just to see what they become.
It sits somewhere between science and magic.
Between intention and accident.
And that’s where it becomes interesting.
🎨 The Digital Process
Like most of my pieces, this began as a rough sketch on the iPad.
Loose lines.
Basic composition.
Just enough to understand how the elements would sit together.
From there, everything moved into Procreate.
Built up layer by layer:
- The dragon shape came first to define the movement
- The bottle was added as a central anchor point
- Colour blocking followed to separate each element clearly
- Details like scales, glass reflections, and liquid texture were built gradually
- The final stage focused on contrast and subtle highlights to bring it to life
Because there are fewer elements in this piece, everything had to be intentional.
There’s nowhere to hide.
⚖️ Simplicity vs Meaning
On the surface, this piece is simpler than some of the others.
Less chaos.
Less movement.
But that simplicity makes the concept stronger.
It gives you space to actually notice what’s happening.
To question it.
To decide how you feel about it.
🖤 Controlled Chaos
This piece sits right on the edge.
Not fully dark.
Not fully playful.
Somewhere in between.
Which is where a lot of the most interesting ideas live.
⚔️ Final Thought
Curiosity creates.
But it also reveals.
And sometimes…
you don’t realise what you’ve made until it’s already looking back at you.
