The symmetry came first.
Getting that mirrored structure right was key to making the concept work.
From there, it moved into Procreate and was built up in layers:
- Establishing the skull shapes as the foundation
- Creating the mirrored composition to keep everything balanced
- Adding the icing layer to soften the visual initially
- Introducing colour contrast to enhance that “sweet vs dark” feeling
- Refining details like drips, texture, and subtle imperfections
- Finishing with shading to give it depth and weight
This piece relies heavily on contrast.
Not just visually, but conceptually.
⚖️ Soft vs Harsh
The softness of the icing clashes with the hardness of the skulls.
The bright colours clash with the darker meaning.
And that clash is what makes the piece hold your attention.
